Moderated by Corie Helms Thayer, Associate Director of Admissions – Midwest Region, this event will feature a panel of UMHS alumni currently practicing and training in the Midwest as they share honest insights about their medical school journey. Panelists include Dr. David H. Rustom, Associate Professor at Wayne State University specializing in PM&R and Pain Management; Dr. Alexander M. Khobeir, a PGY-3 in Emergency Medicine at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, MI; and Dr. Adrianna Thibault, a practicing Family Medicine physician at Silver Pines Medical Group in Shelby Township, New Baltimore and Lenox, MI.

Closing the Deaf Gap in Healthcare: Giving a Voice To Deaf Patients

On Tuesday, 9/20 at 5pm ET, UMHS hosted a livestream, "Closing the Deaf Gap in Healthcare: Giving a Voice To Deaf Patients” in recognition of September as Deaf Awareness Month & International Week of Deaf People September 19-25, 2022. The livestream featured UMHS alumni Dr. Christine Marshall MD, MBA ‘15 and former Interpreter for the Hearing Impaired, Karen Matthews, both of whom are CODAs. The panelists share their experiences to give insightful advice to future doctors and those in the healthcare field to ensure the deaf and the hearing impaired are provided with the best and smoothest experiences possible.
